Sheriff Troy R. Cunningham is a lifelong resident of Bay County. He began his law enforcement career in 1993 with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office. He started as a Reserve Deputy and then also worked in the Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol division. In 1997 he was hired on the Road Patrol as a Sheriff’s Deputy after graduating from Delta Colleges Police Academy. He has served as a Deputy, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and in 2013 was appointed as Undersheriff. In 2017 he was elected as the Sheriff of Bay County.
Sheriff Cunningham attended Delta College, Ferris State University for Criminal Justice and Marketing, and Michigan State University for Accident Reconstruction.
Sheriff Cunningham will continue to maintain and grow the professionalism and training of the law Enforcement and Corrections Deputies to the highest level obtainable. In addition, he will maintain and continue to keep the jail safe and secure. Also focusing on the care, custody and control of the inmates lodged at the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Cunningham promises to provide the residents of Bay County with the best Sheriff’s Office he can.
Sheriff Cunningham wants to provide leadership for the community, to prevent unlawful activity, ensure individual rights and establish a safe and secure community for the residents of Bay County.
