I was appointed as the permanent Sheriff of Gratiot County on May 23rd 2019, when the former Sheriff retired.
I was raised in Gratiot County, moving here at the age of 3 with my parents. I have been married for 31 years and have 3 children ranging in age from 23-28 years old.
I started as a reserve Police Officer with the City of St. Louis Michigan in 1986. I attended the Northeastern Police Academy in 1989. While at St. Louis I attained the rank of Road Patrol Sergeant.
I also worked part-time for the Gratiot County Sheriff’s Office in the early 1990’s as a Road Patrol Deputy and Corrections Officer. I then took a fulltime position with the Sheriff’s Office in 2000. I was promoted to Detective in 2001 a position I held until January of 2019, when I was appointed Undersheriff. I was then appointed to be Sheriff in May of 2019.
I have over 22 years of law enforcement supervisory experience. I have attended schooling for Police Supervision and Advanced Police Supervision.
Some of my professional passions include safety of our children and senior citizens. In 2016 I was the recipient of the Gratiot County child advocate of the year. In 2019 I was awarded the United Way volunteer award. I have spoken to numerous groups of senior citizens about how to avoid being scammed and other various topics.
I currently sit on the Child Advocacy board of directors. I am a member of the Gratiot County substance abuse coalition. I am a team member of the Mid-Michigan Regional mental health court and Mid-Michigan Sobriety Court. I am also on the school safety alliance, hazardous mitigation team, and court house security committee. I am a former member of the Gratiot County vulnerable adult committee.
I loved growing up in Gratiot County. By being the Sheriff and the years I have put into the law enforcement it is fulfilling to give back to Gratiot County.
