Sheriff Boehmke was born and raised in Iron County. He graduated from the Forest Park School District in 2000, and furthered his education at Northern Michigan University, where he graduated with an Associates of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Boehmke attended the Northern Michigan University Police Academy and graduated in the class of 2003.
Sheriff Boehmke was hired in October of 2003 by the Iron County Sheriff’s Office. He started as a patrol officer, and he was also assigned as a Drug Treatment Court Officer. For ten years, he taught D.A.R.E. in both West Iron and the Forest Park School Districts. He was promoted and served as a Road Patrol Sergeant from 2014-2015. He was subsequently promoted to Lieutenant/Jail Administrator for the Iron County Correctional Facility. He held this position until 2019, when then Sheriff Mark Valesano appointed Boehmke to be his Undersheriff. Following Valesano’s retirement, Boehmke became the appointed Sheriff for Iron County.
Sheriff Boehmke is active in his community, where he resides with his wife and three children. The experience he has gained, through his service in multiple roles, has given him the ability to better understand how he can effectively serve and have a positive impact on the residents of Iron County in his position at Sheriff.
