Sheriff Rantala was raised in Ontonagon County, graduated from Ontonagon Area High School in 1985 and went to Northern Michigan University to pursue a law enforcement career. Sheriff Rantala was hired in 1991 as Correctional Officer and appointed Undersheriff in 2000. Sheriff Rantala won his first Election in 2012 and was re-elected in 2016. Sheriff Rantala is active in his community and proud to serve the residents of Ontonagon County.
