Sheriff Taylor D. Kann is a dedicated law enforcement professional with over a decade of experience serving Oscoda County and the State of Michigan. A 2011 graduate of Mio AuSable High School, Sheriff Kann continued his education at Kirtland Community College, where he earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice. In November 2013, he graduated from the Kirtland Regional Police Academy as part of “Class 37.”
Sheriff Kann began his career with the Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office, where he served for nearly three years before joining the Michigan State Police in 2016. After completing the 132nd Trooper Recruit School, he was assigned to the Alpena Post and later the Mio Detachment, accumulating five years of service with the department.
In September 2021, Sheriff Kann returned to the Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office to continue serving his community. From August to December 2024, he served as Undersheriff alongside Sheriff Kevin Grace. Sheriff Kann was elected as Sheriff of Oscoda County in November 2024 and officially took office on January 1, 2025.
Sheriff Kann has been married to his wife for five years, and together they have two children. He takes pride in being an active member of the community and is committed to fostering a strong and positive relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and Oscoda County residents.
