Sheriff Abbott has been with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office since March 1993. He started out in Corrections and moved to the road as Deputy and then was promoted to road Sergeant in 2011. He remained in that position until becoming Sheriff of Van Buren County in 2017. Sheriff Abbott graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in the Spring of 1992. He was the founder of the FTO Program in his county. He was the very first to ever receive Deputy of the Year from their department.
